iCare COMPASS Automated Perimeter with Active Retinal Tracking

Bringing the visual field analysis to the next level Automated Tracked Perimetry overcomes limitations in visual field testing when compared to Standard Automated Perimetry (SAP). iCare COMPASS® is an automated perimeter combined with an active retinal tracker and a scanning ophthalmoscope. This advanced technology provides retinal sensitivity and fixation analysis, as well as TrueColor Confocal imaging of the retina.

More data to support diagnosis

The new features Smart Progression Analysis report and SmartMosaic function can provide more information on the changes of the visual field and the condition of the retinal structure.

The advantage of Automated Tracked Perimetry

Fundus-controlled perimetry is a technique that images the retina during visual field testing, enabling a reliable correlation to be made between visual function and retinal structure. Retinal tracking is at the heart of this function.

Continuous and-, automated, tracking of eye movements by infrared scanning of the retina provides active compensation for fixation losses. The perimetric stimuli automatically reposition prior to and during projection based on the current eye position. This ensures an accurate match between function (i.e. retinal sensitivity values) and structure (fundus image) thanks to the compensation for eye movements that results in the reduction of motion artifacts.

Automated visual field test with TrueColor Confocal imaging

As a perimeter, iCare COMPASS offers full compatibility with standard 24-2, 30-2 and 10-2 visual field testing containing age-matched databases of retinal sensitivity in normal subjects. For the first time in a visual field test, iCare COMPASS provides 60° confocal images of the retina in TrueColor, Infrared and Red-free. iCare COMPASS is also the first perimeter to provide high resolution stereo viewing for a better assessment of the optic nerve head.

Easy-to-use, patient-friendly, and efficient perimetry

With the iCare COMPASS Automatic Refraction Correction, the Auto-focus, there is no need for trial lenses. This not only reduces the examination time but avoids lens rim artefacts and improves patient flow and comfort. The test can be suspended at any time without data loss. The touch screen interface via high resolution integrated tablet and the all-in-one design (no external PC) with 1 Ethernet and 3 USB Ports make the device easy to operate. iCare COMPASS also offers embedded capabilities for network connectivity that allows remote viewing and storing data on a remote shared folder.

Clinical case with iCare COMPASS

In January 2017 a 63 years old male was examined and the results of the visual field test suggested glaucoma in the right eye. The treatment for normal tension glaucoma was started and continued until a new visual field test was performed over a year later – this time with iCare COMPASS. The results of this test revealed, however, a different diagnosis.

Testimonials

  • iCare COMPASS perimeter is used at our clinic for visual field tests for glaucoma patients and in context of clinical trials. The device’s ability to create a comprehensive visual field map based on active retinal tracking is instrumental in order to create a personalized treatment plan for patients and reliable visual field loss screening. In combination with visual field testing the device delivers three imaging modalities in order to visualize the retinal anatomy allowing judgment of retinal defects simultaneously.

  • iCare COMPASS perimeter provides high-quality visual field testing with a retinal tracker and true color fundus images in a single examination. I appreciate having its super-imposed images that provide an overlap of areas with depressed sensitivity and corresponding damaged retinal areas.

  • iCare COMPASS perimeter user-friendly interface makes the entire testing process seamless and comfortable. The device’s efficient operation (auto focus, no dilation of pupil needed) ensures that each examination is quick and very suitable for clinical routine even with demanding patients.
